"Make thee a fiery serpent (ט Teth), and set it upon a pole (ו Vav): and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh (ע Ayin) upon it, shall live." - Numbers 21:8
So, what that means is, when you are 'bitten', and you look at it, what had 'bit' you, that when you meditate upon what occurred, then you will live, because you are paying attention, using your consciousness, instead of fearing and letting it run its course through you.
